Murale (Murals)

Murals, street art and graffiti
Let me show you my definitions as it can be a bit confusing.

Murals
"Mur, mura, muur". Just a few examples of the word "wall" in a few foreign languages.

Murals are pieces of art painted on walls, enormous walls. Finishing these can take months. Mostly legal nowadays, most artists are being paid and it's just a small group of top mural artists worldwide.

Street Art
Not legal, mostly smaller, artsy stuff which is painted, sprayed, stenciled, pasted posters, stickered, etc. Some of the works have a political or other meaning, some are just funny.

In Warsaw there are quite some of these pieces if you look good, I will blog about it soon. Oh yes, I nearly forgot to mention: People who call it "Neo-Graffiti" should be shot. Immediately.

Graffiti
Spraycans only. Can be very colourful and pretty or can be absolutely crap. I always loved graffiti when I was younger, nowadays good ones are scarce unfortunately.

However, in Warsaw is still quite a big graffiti scene. The city has also created a few walls to legally spray, pretty impressive to see. Also about graffiti I will write a separate blog post soon.

Warsaw murals
So now you know the difference, if you did not already know. Murals, I just love them. They bring color to the city's streets. In the Netherlands I did not see them, but here there are a lot. Till now I have photographed a lot of them in Warsaw, let me show you some categorized by city district.

Warszawa Wola

Warszawa Praga

Warszawa Mokotów

Warszawa Żoliborz

I hope you liked to see these, keep an eye on the photo account because there are many many more in the city. In real they are even more impressive, true pieces of art.
